SOUTHLAKE, Texas — Southlake megachurch Gateway Church has parted ways with another pastor, this time firing one of their church leaders over a "moral issue," a church official said.
Kemtal Glasgow was an executive pastor who oversaw Gateway's church campuses across North Texas. Elder Tra Willbanks said Gateway leaders were notified last week of an issue involving Glasgow and decided he could not remain employed by the church.
"We were informed last week of a moral issue, which we believe, as elders, disqualifies him from serving in the role that he had at Gateway," church elder Tra Willbanks said in an update, which was posted as an unlisted video on YouTube. "We love his family. We love his wife, his kids. And we want to come alongside them during this difficult time and help them find restoration and healing that they need as a family."
Willbanks did not disclose the specific alleged issue involving Glasgow. A church spokesperson said it was a "private HR matter," not a criminal matter. The spokesperson declined to give further details.
Attempts to reach Glasgow Thursday were not successful.
Willbanks said Adana Wilson, the campus pastor for Gateway's Frisco church campus, will take over Glasgow's duties.
Glasgow worked at Gateway for about a decade and previously led its Frisco campus before taking on oversight of its nearly dozen locations across North Texas.
Glasgow's departure comes during a time of major upheaval at Gateway this summer. Founding pastor Robert Morris in June resigned after allegations of child sexual abuse against him surfaced.
The fallout began when Cindy Clemishire, Robert Morris' accuser, came forward with her story that alleged Morris began sexually abusing her in the early 1980s. She was 12 at the time and Morris was in his 20s.
After the allegations were made public, Morris admitted to his congregation that he was "involved in inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady," though he did not make reference to the girl's age.
Overwhelming public backlash ensued, and Morris ultimately decided to resign from the church on June 18.
In July, Morris' son, James Morris, stepped down from his role at the church. James Morris was expected to be the heir apparent to his father's lead pastor role at the church upon his father's retirement next year.
A church spokesperson previously confirmed Robert Morris and church elder Steve Dulin, who left in late July, received no severance pay.
When asked about severance for Glasgow, a church spokesperson said, "this employment separation is a private HR matter between the employee and the employer."
