IRVING, Texas — Irving ISD announced that a gas leak near Sam Houston Middle School caused staff members to be evacuated Tuesday afternoon.
According to the school district, around 2:20 p.m., a construction crew working on the campus accidentally cut through a 2.5-inch gas line.
Irving Fire Department says it responded to the scene, also contacting Atmos for repair.
Just a few minutes after receiving the report, fire crews arrived to the scene and evacuated the immediate area, which included all the staff members inside the middle school, Irving Fire says.
According to the fire department, around 3:22 p.m., the gas line was repaired by Atmos and no lines inside the school were damaged.
"We are happy to report that everyone is safe, and there were no students in the building," Irving ISD stated in a news release.
