Man charged with arson in connection with alley fire and person of interest in two house fires, Frisco officials say

A video shared with authorities helped them track down the 29-year-old suspect from Central Texas, the Frisco Fire Marshal's Office said.

FRISCO, Texas — An arrest has been made after an investigation into two fires that ignited within hours of each other on Monday, the Frisco Fire Department announced.

The first fire broke out at about 4:08 p.m. in the 6300 block of Memorial Drive and Chapel Creek Blvd, sending plumes of smoke into the air.

The second fire happened just after 10 p.m. in the 4600 block of Haverford Drive. When crews arrived they spotted a man walking from between two houses near the fire. Frisco FD said the man matched the description of a person of interest related to the house fire on Chapel Creek.

The suspect, charged with arson, is identified as Jonathan Webb, 29, of Austin, TX. He is currently in the Denton County Jail and has a $10,000 bond.

He was arrested for public intoxication and charged with deadly conduct related to the alley fire on Haverford Drive, the department said. Webb also had outstanding warrants with the City of Dallas.

The home on Chapel Creek was under construction and was completely engulfed in flames, causing the fire to spread to the house next door. No construction crews were at the home under construction when the fire began, and there's been little activity there for weeks, according to neighbors.

Fire crews said the home was a total loss. The exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

The house next door sustained significant damage. In total, eight homes were impacted by either fire, water damage or broken windows by the 3-alarm fire, Frisco FD said.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and was released at the scene, the department said.

The Frisco Fire Marshal's Office said a video shared with the department showing the suspect in the Chapel Creek area before the fire started helped authorities identify Webb as a person of interest.

Webb is currently in the Denton County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
