City of Frisco holds groundbreaking for redevelopment project in historic downtown.

It’s a part of a more than $70 million project to redevelop the historic downtown.

FRISCO, Texas — Growth is happening everywhere you look across North Texas and Frisco is a prime example of that. The latest groundbreaking happened in the historic downtown of Frisco on Friday morning.

City and business leaders held the groundbreaking for a new event plaza that will be built on 4th Street. It will sit beside a multi-story parking garage.

It’s part of a more than $70-million project to redevelop the area.

All this is happening just a few streets down from the Frisco Automotive. Richard Bennett, owner of the shop, has worked there for the last 20 years. In that time, he's noticed the amount of growth over the last 10 years in that area.

“Now they're fixing to finally put the heart and soul into it,” said Bennett.

The new plaza will be built in the heart of historic downtown Frisco on Elm Street, between 4th & 5th Streets.

Bennett welcomes the change and says it will only help small businesses in the area. “It's amazing really because more and more cars are here and we just take more and more and we can take more.”

Former Mayor of Frisco Maher Maso was in attendance on Friday. “We all knew growth was coming, but boy that hyper-growth,” said Maso.

He said the city will continue to grow and it’s just something that won’t stop anytime soon as people continue to move to North Texas.

The city said construction will begin on the plaza this August. They’re eyeing for it to be completed sometime in March 2026.
