On Monday night the Plano city council took a huge step in the $1 billion redevelopment of Collin Creek Mall. Council members voted unanimously to approve the rezoning of the land the mall sits on.

"It's about time they do something about it," said Antonio Estrada of Anthony Shoe Care.

The mall, which opened in 1981, has seen a slow demise over the last decade. It changed ownership several times before Centurion American worked to redevelop it.

The dozen or so vendors who remain at Collin Creek Mall in Plano have to be out by June 1st.

"We have a lot of customers asking where we're going because we've been here many years," said Estrada.

Estrada says he will start packing up in the next few weeks and hopes to relocate to another space.

Mehrdad Moayedi of Centurion American says he has plans for restaurants, mom-and-pop stores, underground parking, residential units — even a crystal lagoon with a sandy beach.

"The main body of the mall is going to stay there. But we're going to cut through the middle of it to the point there is open air going through the center of the mall," Moayedi told WFAA earlier this year.

If all goes well, the project will break ground in July and will be complete by the end of 2021.
