Free Narcan vending machines open in Deep Ellum

On Sunday, Conscience Conduit & Livegy unveiled North Texas' first free Narcan vending machines.

DALLAS — Narcan is a useful tool in combatting overdose deaths, and one group in Dallas is making the life-saving medicine more accessible.

Narcan, also known as Naloxone, is a medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

On Sunday, Conscience Conduit & Livegy unveiled vending machines that will dispense Narcan for free at the Deep Ellum Community Center. The main goal: combatting overdose deaths in North Texas.

Naloxone is usually $40 from a pharmacy.

The group chose to unveil the machines in September to commemorate National Recovery Month, which has been held in September since 1989 to promote new treatment and recover practices.

Conscience Conduit says it wants to expand its presence across Texas, providing machines like these in public spaces like schools to combat the ongoing opioid epidemic.
