'It takes a lifetime to heal from the damage' | Girl shot while riding in backseat of car on Fort Worth highway, police say

The girl was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her injury was believed to be non-life-threatening, police said.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A girl was shot in the leg during a possible road rage incident in west Fort Worth early Wednesday, police said.

The shooting happened in the 2800 block of Horne Street, near Camp Bowie Boulevard and Interstate 30, according to a police news release. Officers responded and found the girl who was wounded.

Police said a vehicle had attempted to pass another vehicle on the highway. The vehicle then pulled up alongside the other vehicle and someone fired four shots, striking the girl who was riding in the back seat.

The girl was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her injury was believed to be non-life-threatening, police said. Officials have not released her age but confirmed she is under 18.

No arrests have been made in the shooting.

Rev. Kyev Tatum, Fort Worth community leader and pastor, said it's this kind of violence he and others are working to prevent. "It takes a second for you to shoot that gun, but it takes a lifetime to heal from the damage," Tatum said.

Rev. Tatum says it's important for people to keep their cool, especially behind the wheel.

"The irony that person would shoot four times in a car, it just told me that this person doesn't have control of their anger," Tatum said.

Fort Worth Police Public Information Officer Daniel Segura said road rage incidents happen all too often. "It doesn't go away," Segura said. "Take a couple seconds to take a deep breath and get away from those situation."

Police are asking if you know any information about this shooting, to call the department.
