FORT WORTH, Texas — Investigators from Fort Worth Police and the Tarrant District Attorney's Office are investigating a shooting involving an officer that happened early Sunday morning.
Fort Worth Police uploaded a video about the shooting on their YouTube channel. They also posted the video with a press release on social media.
According to the video and the release, officers were called at about 4 a.m. to a robbery in South Fort Worth. They were dispatched to a 24-hour vape shop in the 6400 block of McCart Avenue near Altamesa Boulevard.
Police say officers arrived to the scene minutes after the call to start looking for the suspect. When they found him, he allegedly fled into an open field behind the shopping center.
The suspect was then found hiding in the backyard of a home in the 3200 block of Fargo Court, according to police.
Officials say an officer confronted the suspect, which led to the officer firing one shot and striking the suspect in his leg.
Police say the officers at the scene provided first aid to the suspect before he was taken to a hospital. According to officials, he is expected to recover.
The suspect has not been identified at this time, but Fort Worth Police say he is 37 years old.
No one inside the vape shop was injured, nor were any of the officers involved.
According to FWPD, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on Significant Event Leave.
This case is under investigation by the FWPD Major Case Unit, Internal Affairs, and the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office.
