FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth has been no stranger to the stars in recent years, as the city has become a hub for Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone"/Paramount universe.
There was the "1883" filming in the famed Stockyards, "Yellowstone" scenes in Venus, and, most recently, "Lawmen: Bass Reeves," which was shot in and around Fort Worth.
Now, Sheridan is bringing a new series to Paramount, and it will again have a decidedly Fort Worth feel to the production.
"Landman," an oil boomtown drama starring Billy Bob Thornton, began production in February and is expected to debut sometime in 2025. While "Landman" is set in West Texas, Fort Worth residents will likely recognize the backdrop.
And they might recognize the diner at the next table over, especially if they drop by Joe T. Garcia's.
Thornton has already been spotted at Fort Worth's famed Tex-Mex restaurant, where he's taken a liking to the nachos. The team at Joe T.'s says Thornton has stopped in for lunch and dinner several times. That's been nothing new for Joe T.'s, which has hosted numerous celebrities through the years, including Sheridan and his various cast members while they film in Fort Worth.
"Landman" started filming in Fort Worth in February, including a scene at the TCU track and field facility. Legacy Casting had put out the call for TCU students and alumni interested in appearing as extras in the scene.
Last week, Legacy posted another Fort Worth casting call for an unnamed Paramount+ show, presumed to be "Landman." The call asked for roughnecks (oilfield workers) for a camp scene, "upscale restaurant goers" for another scene and a baby who is 2-4 months old.
The "Landman" cast is star-studded. Not only is Thornton playing main character Tommy Norris, Sheridan and Co. also signed on Demi Moore to play Norris' wife, Cami, and "Mad Men"-famous Jon Hamm is playing the role of oil titan Monty Miller.
While Thornton opted for Joe T.'s, Hamm apparently decided to get a taste of the local barbecue scene, stopping by Fort Worth's Goldee's Barbecue. Goldee's, if you remember, took home the top spot in Texas Monthly's most recent statewide barbecue rankings.
Hamm and his wife, Anna Osceola, also stopped by Dolly Python Vintage in East Dallas this past weekend, the shop posted on Instagram.
In addition to Thornton, Moore and Hamm, the series stars Ali Larter (The Last Victim), Michelle Randolph (1923), Jacob Lofland (Joker 2), Kayla Wallace (When Calls the Heart), James Jordan (Yellowstone), Mark Collie (Nashville) and Paulina Chávez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia).
"Landman" is executive produced by Sheridan, Christian Wallace, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman and Stephen Kay.
