Kroger is bringing a new store to a fast-growing area of Fort Worth

The store is planned to be 123,000 square feet, and it will sit on 17 acres that will also include a Kroger gas station with 18 pumps.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Kroger broke ground on a new store in a fast-growing area of north Fort Worth this week, marking the third new Kroger under construction in North Texas this year.

The Kroger Marketplace store will be located at 113 East Bonds Ranch Road, off U.S. 287 in Fort Worth, northwest of the Alliance developments along Interstate 35W.

The store is planned to be 123,000 square feet, and it will sit on 17 acres that will also include a Kroger gas station with 18 pumps. The store itself will feature a Starbucks kiosk, a Murray's Cheese counter, a pharmacy and an offering of outdoor living products and various home goods.

“As Fort Worth continues to expand, this new store will be a very important and significant investment in our community and will provide opportunity for new jobs and further economic growth,” said Keith Shoemaker, president, Kroger’s Dallas Division.

Ridgemont Commercial Construction is building the store, which will be Kroger's 10th in Fort Worth.

The Fort Worth store is part of Kroger's new growth in North Texas in 2023.

The company, which has long dominated the North Texas grocery market alongside Tom Thumb and Walmart, is also building new stores in Melissa and Plano. The three stores under construction are Kroger's first new stores in North Texas since 2019.

The grocery market in North Texas has gotten more competitive over the last year, with H-E-B making its initial foray into Dallas-Fort Worth's most populous counties.

H-E-B, which is based in San Antonio, has opened stores in Plano, Frisco and Allen, with stores planned in Fort Worth's Alliance area as well as Mansfield and Melissa.
