FORT WORTH, Texas — A man was hit and killed in a crash on Interstate 30 while running from the cops, Fort Worth police said Friday.
The Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) said officers were dispatched at approximately 6:10 a.m. to the 1200 block of Oakland Boulevard for a burglary call. Witnesses reported that a man was attempting to make entry by pulling on the doors of a closed medical facility, FWPD said.
When officers arrived, they say they learned that the man had moved to a nearby business, where he again attempted to break in. Officers then found the man and attempted to speak with him. The officers approached the man, who then fled on foot toward the direction of I-30W, FWPD said. Additional responding officers drove down the embankment in an attempt to keep him from running into oncoming traffic, officials say.
Fort Worth police said the suspect crossed the Bridge Street service road, jumped the guard rail, and ran into oncoming traffic on I-30W. The suspect was then hit by a pickup truck, FWPD said. The driver of the vehicle stopped to render aid while emergency personnel responded to the scene.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once the next of kin has been notified.
No other injuries were reported.
