FORT WORTH, Texas — Two men were in critical condition Wednesday morning after a house fire in Fort Worth, officials said.
The fire happened at a home in the 5600 block of Donnelly Avenue in the Como neighborhood of west Fort Worth.
Officials said the two victims were flown to a hospital for treatment. Both men were listed in critical condition.
Officials said the fire happened around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. One of the victims had called 911, saying he was trapped in the back of the house. Firefighters arrived and found one victim at the front door of the home and the other victim, who had called 911, in the back of the home. Firefighters had to pop burglar bars off a window of the home to get to the second victim.
"Those things are great for what their intended purpose is from keeping people outside of the home, but unfortunately when you’re inside and your house is on fire its very hard to get out," said Craig Trojacek, a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman.
Life-saving measures were performed, and two CareFlite helicopters transported the victims to Parkland, Fort Worth fire said.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation Wednesday. The names of the victims have not been released.
