FORT WORTH, Texas — A witness fatally shot a dog who was reportedly attacking someone in Fort Worth on Wednesday morning, police said.
The incident happened around 11:15 a.m. in the 6800 block of South Creek Drive, near Altamesa Boulevard and Westcreek Drive in south Fort Worth, according to a police news release.
A spokesperson for Fort Worth's codes department said they responded to a call about a person on top of a car surrounded by four dogs.
Witnesses told officers that three dogs had bitten someone and were trying to attack other people. Police said one of the witnesses stopped one of the dogs by shooting it, and that the dog died.
"Upon arrival, Animal Control observed one deceased dog and the other three dogs being returned to their owner’s property. It was confirmed that one of the three dogs was not involved with the attack," the city codes department spokesperson continued.
The witness who shot the dog called police and was cooperating with the investigation. Police said no charges were expected to be filed against the shooter.
Animal Care and Control issued a notice to quarantine and issued citations to the owner of two dogs involved in the attack, according to the city codes department, and no one in the area claimed ownership of the dog that died.
