FORT WORTH, Texas — A Fort Worth police officer was injured in a crash at the northbound Interstate 35/Texas Spur 280 ramp Friday morning, according to police.
The Fort Worth Police Department initially said it was a hit-and-run crash but later corrected their statement and said it was not a hit-and-run. In a press release Friday afternoon, FWPD said an on-duty Fort Worth police officer driving a marked police unit was driving northbound at the I-35 toll road entrance ramp near downtown Fort Worth and was involved in an accident.
MedStar and Fort Worth Fire personnel also responded to provide medical assistance, FWPD said.
The officer involved in the accident was transported to a local hospital in serious condition for medical treatment, FWPD said, and his condition was improving. The officer has been with the Fort Worth Police Department for nine years and is assigned to the Crime Scene Unit.
The details of the accident are being investigated by the Fort Worth Police Traffic Unit, the department said in its update Friday afternoon. FWPD added that details will be released as they become available.
