FORT WORTH, Texas — A burglary suspect jumped into the Trinity River while running away from Fort Worth police officers early Monday, officials said.

The suspect, 30-year-old Garret Seaton, eventually got out of the river and was taken into custody, according to a police update.

The incident started around 5 a.m. when officers reported to a burglary call in the 300 block of Oakhurst Scenic Drive, northeast of downtown Fort Worth. When officers arrived, they learned that a suspect was trying to break into vehicles at an apartment complex parking garage.

Police said the suspect ran away from officers and jumped into the Trinity River, which runs along the west side of the apartment complex. The suspect came out of the river "a short time later" and was taken into custody by officers.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital for evaluation. More information about the incident was not released.
