Fort Worth rock quarry drowning victims identified

Fort Worth Fire Department dive teams recovered the bodies of two men who drowned in a rock quarry in west Fort Worth after one man fell in and another man attempted to rescue him, officials said.

FORT WORTH, Texas —

4:45 p.m. Sunday April 21 UPDATE:

The Fort Wort Fire Department has identified the drowning victims its dive team recovered Sunday morning after a Saturday night and Sunday morning search.

The body of 25-year-old Martin Gutierrez was recovered from water in a rock quarry at 10:52 a.m. The body of 51-year-old Talamantes Gutierrez was recovered at 12:25 p.m.

Sunday morning UPDATE: Fort Worth Fire recovered the bodies of two men Sunday who drowned Saturday night, according to a statement from Fort Worth Fire.

The bodies were recovered at 10:52 a.m. and 12:25 p.m., respectively. They have not been identified yet.

10:50 p.m. Saturday UPDATE: Fort Worth Fire is calling off the search for the night for two men who they believe fell in a lake next to a west Fort Worth rock quarry earlier Saturday night. There was no recovery of the two men, but rescue divers know they are out there: witnesses saw the men go in the water.

The search will resume at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Water temperature as of 10:50 p.m. was 15 degrees. 

Saturday night: Fort Worth Fire Department dive teams are currently searching for two men who have apparently drowned in a rock quarry in west Fort Worth after one man fell in and another man attempted to rescue him, officials said.

The two men are a father and son, officials said.

The dive team thinks the water, which is a lake on private property at the Silver Creek Materials facility, is more than 50 feet deep and just 15 degrees, with zero visibility.

Nothing else is known at this time.
