FORT WORTH, Texas — A long-time Fort Worth police officer was fired after an investigation found he lied about the use of his leave time.
The department says Officer Stephen Thompson was terminated on Feb. 29, according to a news release. Thompson was placed on restricted duty related to a previous investigation, involving charges of driving while intoxicated back in August 2022 while he was off duty.
After a thorough review of the Internal Affairs investigation, Officer Thompson’s supervisors determined that he violated multiple policies of the Fort Worth Police Department. Chief Noakes supported the findings of the investigation and terminated Thompson’s employment with the department.
"Our department will continue to hold employees accountable who do not meet the standards expected of a Fort Worth Police Officer and in doing so, we will continue to be transparent and open with our community," the department said in a news release.
Thompson was employed with the department for 20 years and was assigned to the fleet division at the time of his termination.
