2 arrested in 'targeted attack' killing in North Texas, police say

FORNEY, Texas — Two people have been arrested in the killing of a person in Forney in what police described as a "pre-meditated targeted attack," officials said.

Deaundre Bernard Walker and Mayra Lara, both of Forney face murder charges in the case, according to a police news release.

Officers on Monday morning responded to a shooting in the 600 block of Summerhaven, near Farm Road 548 and U.S. 80, where the victim was found fatally shot in a driveway.

Detectives learned that that shooting victim, who has not been identified by officials, "was clearly targeted."

One person was taken into custody that morning as a person of interest. Later Monday night, Forney SWAT officers and the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at a home on Rosy Finch Drive and took the second person into custody.

Police later identified the suspects as Walker and Lara.

Walker also faces a charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance. Police said 240 grams of narcotics were found at his home. He's being held in jail with his total bail set at $1.5 million.

Lara faces an additional charge of second-degree possession of a controlled substance, police said. She was also arrested on warrants out of Parker County. Lara is being held in jail with her total bail set at $850,000. 

Both Walker and Lara were being transferred to the Kaufman County Jail, police said.

"Let me be clear, these violent crimes will not be tolerated in the City of Forney," Police Chief Carrie White said in a statement. "We will work to bring justice to those who are victimized in our city."
