Former state district judge Joe Drago III has died. He was suffering from throat and lung cancer.
During his time on the bench, Judge Drago presided over the high-profile trial of Diane Zamora, a Naval midshipman who killed her romantic rival.
He also oversaw the murder trial of serial killer Ricky Lee Green.
Drago was a well-known supporter of trials being telecast.
Drago retired in 2002. He was 70 years old.
