FOREST HILL, Texas — Forest Hill Police Chief Eddie Burns Sr. has been fired, the city confirmed in an announcement Friday.

City officials in the announcement said they "discussed multiple matters with Burns which established separation was best for all parties."

"Burns is aware of these matters and the City prefers to keep that between the City and Burns for the present," the announcement said.

Burns joined the Forest Hill Police Department in 2021. WFAA has reached out to Burns but has not immediately heard back.

Forest Hill is a city of about 13,500 people southeast of Fort Worth.

Capt. Lee Sumpter took over as interim chief on Feb. 17, the city said. Sumpter is a 19-year veteran of the Forest Hill Police Department and has worked in law enforcement for a total of 23 years.

The city is beginning the search process for a permanent replacement at police chief.

More information about Burns' departure from the city was not yet available. Burns was the former Dallas Fire-Rescue chief from 2006-2011, and later served as Director of Public Safety in Glenn Heights.
