Five killed in fiery crash in Fannin County, officials say

Five people were killed and another person was injured in the two-vehicle crash on State Highway 121 near County Road 4165, officials say.

FANNIN COUNTY, Texas — Five people were killed in a fiery crash on State Highway 121 in Fannin County Monday, officials say.

A Mercedes Benz driven by 30-year-old Sivaa Rajaneni, of Coppell, was driving northbound on State Highway 121 near County Road 4165 shortly before 6 p.m. Monday, tried to pass in a no-passing zone and hit a Hyundai Tucson head-on, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Both vehicles caught on fire, officials say.

Rajaneni was pronounced dead at the scene, as were two other passengers in the Mercedes – Gopi Thirumuru, 30, and Haritha Reddy Degapui, 27, officials say. A third passenger, Saisuhas Reddy, 30, was flown to Medical City Plano with critical injuries, officials say.

The driver and a passenger in the Tucson -- Danielha Rodriguez of Broken Bow, Okla., and Maria del Carmen Santiz-Lopez, 64 -- were also killed in the crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

No other details were immediately available and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
