FANNIN COUNTY, Texas — Five people are dead and two more are injured after one vehicle collided into another head-on Wednesday on a highway in Fannin County, police said.
A 2006 Honda Civic with five people inside was driving eastbound down State Highway 56 when at about 11:26 a.m. Wednesday, then the driver reportedly lost control and drove into oncoming traffic near County Road 3212, colliding into a 2024 GMC Sierra C2500, according to officials.
All five people inside the Civic were pronounced dead at the scene, police said: 30-year-old Ernestina Castillo-Alfaro of Bonham, 26-year-old Rosa Trochez-Montenegro, 28-year-old Oneyda Zamora, 23-year-old Jose Urbina and 57-year-old Nestor Gonzalez-Valerio.
The two people in the Sierra were both critically injured and taken to the Texoma Medical Center in Denison, police said: 48-year-old David Strong of Robinson and 62-year-old Craig Moody.
The investigation is ongoing.
