ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — An animal shelter in Ellis County was forced to halt its intake of animals Friday after news about an infectious illness incident was announced.
According to a Facebook post from the Ellis County Sheriff's Office, the SPCA of Texas announced that its Ellis County Animal Care Center will stop taking in animals for at least one week.
SPCA of Texas said in a message to the Sheriff's Office that the shelter will be reevaluated on Friday, Dec. 20.
It wasn't immediately made clear what the infectious illness incident was or how many animals it affected, however, the SPCA of Texas urged all pet owners to vaccinate their pets against all species-appropriate diseases under the direction of their veterinarian.
"We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause and frustration that comes with it," the Ellis County Animal Care Center said in the message. "We are here ready to serve you and will resume regular operations as soon as we are given the all clear from the SPCA."
