DUNCANVILLE, Texas — Duncanville Independent School District has decided to make clear backpacks mandatory for all students.
On Monday, it was announced that DISD students from Pre-Kindergarten -12th grade will be required to use clear backpacks starting January 8.
"Panther safety is our #1 priority and we are dedicated to providing a safe, secure learning environment for all students and staff," the district stated in a Facebook post.
Duncanville ISD plans to provide one clear backpack for free to all students who need one.
According to the district's website, students are allowed to carry a small, nonclear bag to hold personal items, such as money, cell phones, and hygiene products.
Several Texas schools have reassessed or upgraded their security efforts following the May 2023 shooting in Uvalde.
Last year, Dallas ISD also announced a clear bag policy for the 2023-2024 school year for all of its students.
