GRANBURY - The road rash and deep cuts all over Eric Sanders' body only begin to tell the story.
"I've got a gouge in my elbow that is bone-deep," Sanders said.
The video tells the rest.
Saturday afternoon, Sanders' friend had his motorcycle camera recording as they drove down Tin Top Highway near Granbury in Hood County.
In the video, which has now been viewed more than 1 million times on Facebook, you can see Sanders (who is in front) encounter a slow group of cars. When he goes to pass them, the video shows one of the cars swerve into Sanders' lane just as he passes, hitting the motorcycle and throwing Sanders and his girlfriend off.
Sanders' friend then confronts the driver on camera.
"What were you doing? You hit them," you can hear the friend say.
"I don't care," the driver of the car says.
That man repeatedly says he doesn't care. His reasoning?
"I got stung by a wasp," he says in the video.
Sunday night, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed for News 8 its troopers are now investigating whether the man intentionally crashed into Sanders, which would be a felony. We are hiding the driver's face because he has not been charged and we were not able to reach him.
Sanders is recovering. But his girlfriend, 38-year-old Debra Simpson, remains in the ICU at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
"They're worried about infection," Sanders said, crying. "If her arm gets infected they're going to have to amputate it."
Sanders believes his girlfriend will be in the hospital for two weeks. He hopes the DPS investigation into this incident is a bit more swift. He says he has no question in his mind it was intentional.
"I've seen people pull in front of me all the time, people cut me off all the time," he said. "Never in my life has anyone tried to hit me."
Police say the video will be a central piece of their investigation, and they say to expect a decision from the district attorney this week.
Sanders was cited at the scene for passing in a no-pass zone and for driving with an invalid license.
