DESOTO, Texas — DeSoto ISD announced a new list of safety protocols that it will be implementing for students in attendance at all future athletic events.
According to the school district, these guidelines are being enforced to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone in attendance at DeSoto ISD home athletic events.
Highlighting the new guidelines are the stadium entry requirements, which state that all students and staff are required to wear and maintain a district-issued identification badge in order to enter the game.
In addition, only DeSoto ISD students are allowed on the home side of the stadium and students from opposing high schools must have their ID to enter the stadium as well. Visiting students have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian to sit on the visitor's side of the stadium.
If students do not have their ID, they will be removed immediately or denied entrance, according to the school district. These IDs must be visible at all times.
In terms of viewing the game, all students must be seated throughout the contest and if students are caught hanging out around the concourse and not in line for concessions, they will be removed from the stadium.
DeSoto ISD's safety protocols say administrators, city officials, board members and designated spectators will be given passes to move in certain areas of the stadium.
According to the district, both DeSoto ISD and opposing team students in attendance must be in dress code, which means appropriate-length jeans with no holes, rips, tears or frays, as well as appropriate footwear. Students may also not cover their heads with hoodies.
Following the athletic event, students must leave the stadium immediately. Those who are still there beyond 10 minutes after the event will be moved to a secure location and have to be signed out by an adult.
If a student is not picked up within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the event, they will no longer be permitted to attend any future sporting events for the rest of the semester.
