A Desoto home was destroyed Sunday after it was struck by lightning, according to a release from the City of Desoto.
City officials say lightning struck the home on the 1900 block of Windmill Lane around 3 p.m. Sunday. A fire broke out at the home as a result of the lightning strike.
The residents were not at home when the flames scorched the roof of the home in the gated Windmill Hill Estates community. More than 30 firefighters from four departments responded to the fire, but no injuries were reported.
The estimated loss from the fire was near $500,000, according to the city.
