Deputy shot after police chase through North Texas, officials say

A deputy was shot Sunday in Johnson County after a vehicle pursuit, officials say.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas — A Johnson County deputy was shot Sunday while making an arrest after pursuing a vehicle from Tarrant County into Johnson County, officials say.

Johnson County deputies were assisting Tarrant County deputies in the pursuit around 9:30 p.m. Sunday when the occupants of the vehicle they were pursuing got out and fled into a house near Mansfield near Johnson County, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies went into the house to arrest the driver and Johnson County Deputy Austin Reed was shot in the hip while trying to subdue a suspect, officials say.

Reed was taken to a local hospital and treated for a “non-life-threatening” wound, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested and the other occupants were detained and taken to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. Those arrested weren't identified. 

The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
