Man arrested for allegedly grooming 3 Pilot Point High School students through Snapchat, officials say

Angelo Barone, 25, was arrested for child grooming after allegedly communicating with 3 teens through Snapchat, according to Pilot Point ISD.

PILOT POINT, Texas — A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly grooming three Pilot Point High Schoolers, the district said in a press release.

Angelo Barone of Prosper was arrested and booked into Denton County Jail Oct. 14, according to the release. He was charged with child grooming, a third-degree felony, officials say.

All three of the victims were 14 to 15 years old and attended Pilot Point High School, according to the release. The school was made aware of allegations involving Barone and three students on Oct. 3, according to the release. The Pilot Point ISD Police Department immediately began an investigation which led to Barone's arrest, officials said.

Barone was arrested at his place of employment in McKinney, the release states.

The school district alleges that Barone communicated with the three Pilot Point ISD students through social media and that all communications were initiated through Snapchat, according to the release. The communication dated back to Sept. 2024, officials said.

The Criminal Investigations Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety worked to investigate the incident alongside Pilot Point ISD police, the release states.

Barone's bond is set at $20,000 with additional conditions, the release states. He posted bond and was released Tuesday, Oct. 15, according to jail records.

"This case serves as a reminder to all parents to monitor all of their children’s social media. Barone is not a resident of Pilot Point and was able to access all three Pilot Point ISD students through a friend group on Snapchat," the press release states.
