North Texas women to open female-friendly auto repair shop

If you've been mistreated by an auto mechanic, then maybe you can relate to Robin Mainer.

"He said he didn't want to have to explain it all to me," Mainer said.

LEWISVILLE — If you've been mistreated by an auto mechanic, then maybe you can relate to Robin Mainer.

"He said he didn't want to have to explain it all to me," Mainer said.

That's the line she was given after asking a simple question during a recent car inspection.

"I think a lot of times women find they're bullied," Mainer said. "And we just want respect."

So Mainer paired up with long-time friend Kimera Shepler to open their own female-friendly auto repair shop.

"To give them a little power when they do go to an auto shop," Shepler said.

The shop will open in Lewisville this fall.

It will be a franchised shop under Honest-1 Auto Care.

Mainer and Shepler say it won't look drastically different than the company's current shops.

The focus will be on straightforward service, a shop that doesn't take advantage of a customer without car smarts, man or woman.

"You have to have patience," Shepler said.

Their background is in health insurance, so the two women won't be the ones under your hood.

But female empowerment doesn't stop at the front desk.

"What we want to do is find the best mechanics out there," Mainer said. "And there are a lot of females mechanics out there. We are very open to that."
