LITTLE ELM, Texas — A former Little Elm Police Department employee pleaded guilty this week to charges of diverting drug evidence, court records show.
Little Elm Police Chief Rodney Harrison said Wes Moyer was fired from the department in March 2021 after a disturbance at a bar in Dallas.
“I personally responded to the scene and, after conducting a thorough review of the situation, I made the decision to terminate his employment the following day, in accordance with due process,” Harrison said. “Following his termination, we launched a thorough investigation in conjunction with the District Attorney’s Office and other agencies.
Harrison goes on to say that the investigation revealed "potential theft of drug evidence that Moyer was responsible for transporting to the crime lab.”
Moyer was indicted by a grand jury in Denton County in June of 2023 on four counts of diverting a controlled substance for personal use, according to court documents.
As court records show, Moyer pleaded guilty this week and was ordered to serve five years’ probation and pay a $500 fine as part of a plea agreement.
“I want to emphasize that the Little Elm Police Department takes any violation of the law or breach of integrity by our employees with the utmost seriousness,” Harrison’s statement reads. “There is no tolerance for misconduct within our ranks. We are committed to maintaining the trust of our community and I stand by the decision to terminate Wes Moyer and work with the DA’s office to hold him accountable.”
