DENTON COUNTY, Texas — A 24-year-old man was arrested and charged with the murder of a family member after a 71-year-old woman was found dead in the backyard of a Denton County backyard, police said.

Officers were called shortly before 8 p.m. Monday to a home in the Silverado Community in the 11100 block of Canyon Oaks Street in Aubrey to check on the homeowner, Mary Inez Jacinto, 71, who hadn’t been responding to calls or texts from family, according to police.

Police didn’t get an answer at the front door, but found Adrian Padilla, 24, in the backyard of the home, where Jacinto’s body was found, according to a press release.

Padilla lived at the home and was related to Jacinto, police said.

Padilla was arrested at the scene, taken to the Denton County Jail and charged with capital murder and tempering/fabricating evidence with intent to impair a human corpse, according to a press release.

The incident remains under investigation.
