Driver dies after vehicle plummets 17 feet from Loop 12 overpass onto Singleton Boulevard, police said

On Monday afternoon, a major crash caused a massive backup off Loop 12 at North Walton Walker Boulevard and Singleton Boulevard. 45-year-old Moises Sanchez died.

DALLAS — One person was killed in a deadly crash after the vehicle they were driving fell off a Loop 12 overpass onto the road below, police said.

Officers were called at about 3:45 p.m. on Monday about an incident near North Walton Walker Boulevard and Singleton Boulevard. Dallas Police said it was a multi-vehicle accident and that the driver of one of the vehicles involved died from their injuries.

According to police, the driver was traveling down Loop 12 in a Chevrolet Tahoe when the vehicle somehow fell off the bridge 17 feet to the road below.

Late Monday, all investigators would say is said the driver lost control of the vehicle and vaulted off the overpass.

Over the course of the crash, police said, the driver was ejected from the vehicle, which then landed on top of them on the road below.

Police identified the deceased driver as 45-year-old Moises Sanchez.

Police are still investigating what happened but believe the incident may have stemmed from a hit-and-run collision on the above stretch of Loop 12 where the Tahoe had been driving.

This is not the first time in recent memory that a vehicle has fallen 17 feet from Loop 12 onto Singleton Boulevard in a fatal crash. On Dec. 8, 2023, police responded to the intersection of North Walton Walker Boulevard and Singleton Boulevard at 3 a.m. after a car was reportedly driven off the same Loop 12 overpass above. In that incident, responding officials transported the driver to a local hospital in critical condition for treatment of their injuries. They did not survive.

Maurisio Herrera spoke to WFAA after the crash. He was sitting in traffic beneath the overpass when the SUV plummeted onto the concrete beside him.

He might have ended up underneath the wreck if he hadn't looked up after hearing a screeching of brakes. Herrera said he pulled his car forward, and the SUV hit the back of his vehicle instead of crushing it--pushing him into another car in front of him.

"The SUV would have hit me directly, and I wouldn't be here," Herrera said. "I'm still shaking."
