Trailer full of chopped-up tires catches fire alongside North Texas highway, officials say

The incident happened Thursday morning off U.S. 175 and Beltline Road.

DALLAS — An 18-wheeler trailer full of chopped-up tires caught on fire along a North Texas highway in southeast Dallas County on Thursday morning, officials said.

The incident was reported near U.S. 175 and South Beltline Road around 4:15 a.m., according to Dallas Fire-Rescue crews, who were responding to the incident.

Dallas Fire-Rescue officials said it was just a trailer -- no truck -- that was on fire, and no one was at the scene. The trailer had apparently been in the area for the last three weeks, firefighters reported.

The trailer was full of tires that had been chopped up, officials said. Crews were able to get the fire under control but had to stay on scene because of hotspots smoldering among the tires. They were waiting on heavy equipment to arrive to help dig through the debris, officials said.

The fire didn't have a major impact on highway traffic; only the service road near Beltline was shut down.

No injuries have been reported, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.

Footage from the scene showed a badly burned trailer and a fire producing heavy flames and smoke.
