Dallas North Tollway reopens after deadly crash causes downed cable lines

The North Texas Tollway Authority in a brief update said the closure could last into the morning rush hours.

DALLAS — A fatal motorcycle crash and downed utility cables shut down the Dallas North Tollway in both directions in North Dallas for several hours on Friday morning, officials said.

The highway reopened shortly after 8 a.m.

The initial crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on the Tollway at Northwest Highway, causing major traffic delays along the busy stretch through Dallas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a motorcycle crashed, killing the lone rider on it. More information about the crash was not immediately available.

Officials said Spectrum cable lines were knocked down as a result of the crash and were laying across both lanes of the highway. While the impact to Spectrum customers was small, company officials said, the highway shutdown lasted several hours through the morning.

Spectrum crews were having to wait for the police investigation to finish before they could go in to fix the lines that were blocking the highway, a company official said.

This is a developing story. Check back for more details.
