DALLAS — Dallas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett said a group of Texas Republicans who called for her resignation over her support of a bill that would have stripped former President Trump of Secret Service protection were "losers" who were "looking for Twitter clout."

Crockett responded to the resignation call in a post on X on Wednesday evening.

"Oh the evil & illogical who don't even serve on my level believe they have sway or authority over me (insert white privilege)," Crockett posted.

A group of 27 Texas Republicans -- state lawmakers as well as several state House candidates -- called for Crockett to resign on Monday, criticizing her support of a bill that would "terminate United States Secret Service protection for felons."

While all former presidents receive Secret Service protection, the bill -- which has not advanced beyond being referred to the House judiciary committee -- would have, in effect, stripped Trump of his Secret Service protection after his conviction on numerous felonies in his New York trial in May.

The Republicans' call for Crockett's resignation came in a letter in the wake of the assassination attempt on Trump at a Pennsylvania rally Saturday. A gunman's bullet grazed Trump's ear before Secret Service officers rushed to his aid, shielded him and hurried him off the stage.

Crockett did not respond to WFAA's previous requests for comment about the Republicans' criticism over the bill, or if she still supports such a measure. She noted in her post on X that she had been out of the country this week.

In her post, Crockett questioned why taxpayers should "foot the bill for someone who a jury of his/her peers has deemed guilty of a felony or in this case 34 of 'em, if they are sentenced to time."

"The prison is full of officers not to mention, why should we make an entire team of public servants have to go to prison, too?!" Crockett posted.

The bill Crockett supported -- which was also co-sponsored by eight other Congressional Democrats -- called for Secret Service protection to be stripped from convicted felons; it did not specify whether the protection would be stripped only if the conviction resulted in prison time. Trump has not been sentenced in the New York case.

In her X post, Crockett questioned why Republicans "are so scared that your Orange Savior couldn't" survive in prison.

"If Martha Stewart could survive, I’m not sure why y’all are so scared that your Orange Savior couldn’t or is it that you want to admit that women are stronger than many of you, including him?" Crockett posted.  "I mean what type of men go after women anyway, oh Republicans," Crockett posted. "The next time you think it's a great idea to talk to me; don't."
