DALLAS — A Cedar Hill man has been arrested on charges related to the U.S. Capitol Riot on Jan. 6, 2021, federal authorities announced Wednesday.

Steve Saxiones, 46, faces felony charges of obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder and assault on a federal officer, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.

Saxiones also faces misdemeanor charges of knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in a restricted building, act of physical violence in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in a capitol building, and act of physical violence in a capital building.

Saxiones, who authorities say is an alleged member of the Proud Boys organization, was arrested Wednesday in Cedar Hill.

Officials said Saxiones was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, when rioters were pushing and shoving against a police line. Saxiones "allegedly made repeated efforts to push the bike rack barricades and throw his bod weight into the police line," the release said

"Saxiones eventually moved to the end of one such barricade, lunged forward, and allegedly wrapped his arms around an officer," the release said. "Other officers quickly responded, and Saxiones was arrested and released without being charged."

Investigators say they eventually traced Saxiones' alleged involvement in the riot through cell phone records and messages he sent to other members of the Proud Boys. Read the full federal complaint against Saxiones here.

Dozens of people from North Texas have been arrested in the Capitol Riot, the most from any area in the country. Officials say 1,358 people in total have been arrested across the country in cases related to the riot.
