Dallas police officer shot while serving capital murder warrant, officials say

One suspect was also shot during the incident, and another suspect was arrested, the sources told WFAA.

DALLAS — A Dallas police officer was shot in the leg while helping serve a capital murder warrant in northeast Dallas on Thursday morning, police officials said.

The officer was taken to a hospital but was released by Friday morning, police said. A suspect was also shot during the incident and was in critical condition, officials said.

The incident happened around 6 a.m. in the 9900 block of Adleta Boulevard, just northeast of Interstate 635 and Skillman Street.

Officers from the U.S. Marshals Task Force, including Dallas police officers, were serving a capital murder warrant at the location. The warrant was connected to a homicide in the 9700 block of Forest Lane on Oct. 16, officials said.

Sources told WFAA that officers were trying to enter a home to serve the warrant when a suspect opened fire on officers. The officers returned fire, shooting one suspect, the sources said.

One officer was shot in the leg during the incident and taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, the sources said.

"I just left the hospital a little bit ago, and our officer will be fine. He's in good spirits and will recover," Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said.

Sources told WFAA that another suspect at the scene was taken into custody, but officials have not yet provided information on that.

The name of the suspects and officer have not been released.

This is a developing story. Check back for more information.
