DALLAS, Texas — Shilo Sanders is working to create his own name as a star safety on the Colorado Buffaloes.
On Thursday, his name was at the center of a civil court case in Dallas.
A Dallas judge has sealed records in a bankruptcy case against Shilo Sanders, son of NFL hall of famer Deion Sanders.
The order came after a district court hearing where both sides presented arguments about whether the records should be public or not. Sanders' attorneys argued because the incident happened when he was a minor, he had the right to have those documents sealed as a juvenile.
This stems from an ongoing bankruptcy case Sanders filed last October. He faces a nearly $11.9 million judgment stemming from an alleged assault against a Dallas school security guard, John DarJean, who was trying to confiscate his phone in 2015.
Shilo Sanders, now 24, was 15 at the time.
Court records said DarJean suffered a broken spine and nerve damage after getting elbowed in the neck. He immediately filed a police report, sued in a Texas court the next year, and was awarded the judgment after Shilo Sanders didn’t appear for hearings in 2022.
“Honestly, that kind of stuff, you’re not gonna win a court case on social media,” Shilo Sanders said when asked about it Wednesday. "And at the end of the day, everybody is gonna know the truth about everything. So, there’s no point just going out of my way to just do that. So, everything’s good.”
After the order, DarJean’s attorneys told WFAA they had no comment but did say “we made our objections to the court”.
