Dallas ISD confirms the district is investigating possible social media threat at Skyline High School

The district said it immediately contacted Dallas ISD Police and Dallas Police.

DALLAS, Texas — Dallas ISD said Skyline High School received a tip about a possible threat circulating on social media.

The district said once they received the tip, they immediately contacted Dallas ISD Police and Dallas Police, then notified parents.

A spokesperson with the district said they take the claims seriously and are working to determine if it is legit or not. They also strengthened security at the school in response to this potential threat.

“You didn't have to worry about the violence,” said Patricia Allen, founder of the organization No More Violence. “Now, I don't want our children to feel like they're in fear.”

Allen worked in Richardson ISD schools for years before starting the organization. She said they help families that are struggling after traumatic events, like losing a child to violence or school threats.

“Threats are taken very, seriously,” said Allen.

Dallas ISD said if a student is found making a threat, they will be held accountable and disciplined according to the student code of conduct.

Executive Director of Community Safe Initiative John Matthews says he’s taught safety training programs in schools in North Texas and across the country over the last 20 years. Matthews said the district did the right thing by taking the threat seriously and working to find where it came from.

“We're dealing with a whole maraud of threats that we now have to deal with in schools. Have a plan, practice your plan, have technology, and utilize that technology to keep our kids safe,” said Matthews.

Allen said every step is vital when keeping people safe.
