DALLAS — First Baptist Dallas Tuesday for the first time released photos from inside its 133-year-old sanctuary that was decimated in a fire in July.
First Baptist Dallas Executive Pastor Ben Lovvorn said Tuesday that crews are making progress removing debris from the sanctuary.

“This week, we’ve already made great progress in removing a lot of that debris,” said Lovvorn in a video update. “Our team [with Belfor Property Restoration] will be working to remove all of this steel that you see behind me and ultimately cleaning out this site, leaving only the shell of that historic sanctuary as we come back and we plan for the future.”
Church members were able to return to activities and Sunday school programming in the Horner Family Center Aug. 18, three weeks after the July 19 fire. Sunday services returned to the church’s worship center Aug. 4 after two Sundays in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
Dallas Fire-Recue says investigators are documenting the items being removed from the building in hopes of finding information that can help determine a cause of the July 19 four-alarm blaze.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined and under investigation, according to DFR.
