DALLAS — About 1 in 4 Dallas Water Utilities customers are behind on their bills and officials say they plan to start cutting off service and collecting late fees in mid-September for those who haven’t paid their bills or set up a payment plan.

About 26% of Dallas Water Utilities’ 300,000-plus have past-due balances of more than 60 days, officials say. Dallas Water Utilities bills cover water, wastewater, and stormwater services.

City officials say they will start disconnecting service and charging late fees Sept. 18 for Dallas Water Utilities customers who haven’t paid their bills or set up a payment plan.

Officials say the average past-due balance is $127.

Those with past-due balances of more than 60 days can set up a payment plan over six months by emailing dwupaymentplan@dallas.gov.

Operation WaterShare, which is funded by donations and administered by the city’s Office of Community Care, also helps customers who are facing financial hardship with their water bills.

To make a payment, customers can create a profile using the new DallasGo payment platform implemented in March, use the guest pay feature or make a payment by mail, phone at 214-651-1441 or in person at Dallas City Hall. To find a pay station, visit the city’s website here or use the dropbox outside city hall between Young Street and Canton Street.

Customers with questions regarding their account may contact DWU Customer Service at 214-651-1441 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more about the DallasGo platform, visit this website or email Dallasgo@dallas.gov.
