North Texas nonprofit collecting suitcases for children in foster care

DALLAS — Empower, a nonprofit child welfare collaborative, is collecting luggage for the more than 13,000 Texans in the foster care system to carry their belongings.

Empower hopes to collect at least 400 new suitcases during the luggage drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1.

The suitcases can be brought to Empower’s offices in Dallas at 1820 Regal Row or 760 North Watters Road in Allen.

Empower serves nine counties in North Texas, including Dallas, Grayson, Fannin, Collin, Hunt, Rockwall, Kaufman, Ellis and Navaro counties.

“Every 45 seconds, a child enters foster care in the United States and is removed from everything they have ever known. In Texas, there are currently more than 13,000 children in the foster care system.

Empower is a partnership between Texas Family Initiative LLC, CK Family Services, Jonathan's Place, Bair Foundation, Pathways Youth and Family Service.
