DALLAS — Four people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down I-45 at Simpson Stuart Road in Dallas Saturday afternoon.
According to Dallas Police, officers responded to the crash in the 9500 block of northbound I-45 around 1 p.m.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that a car was traveling northbound on the interstate when it collided with a second car. This caused the first car to cross the median into southbound traffic and hit two vehicles in the southbound lanes before it crashed into the guardrail and flipped over.
According to police, three people inside of the first vehicle died at the scene. Both drivers of the vehicles in the southbound lanes were taken to the hospital where one of them died.
Police said the condition of the other driver in the southbound lanes is unknown.
One of the deceased victims in the crash was identified Sunday by the Dallas County Medical Examiner as 28-year-old Jarodrick Smith. It was unclear if Smith was a driver or a passenger in the vehicles.
Three days later the Dallas County Medical Examiner identified two additional victims as 34-year-old Sergio Perdomo-Bautista and 41-year-old Oscar Garcia-Peraza. It's unclear if they were a driver or passengers in the vehicles.
Dallas PD said this is an ongoing investigation.
