IRVING, Texas — The Irving Police Department announced that one person died following a shooting inside a Wingstop on Monday night, police said.
According to police, officers responded to the Wingstop in the 960 block of East Irving Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. to the report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, police said they found one man, Christopher Martin Govea, dead, and another injured. The injured victim, Jesus Mendez, was taken to the hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The affidavit details that Mendez had suffered grazing wounds from the gunfire. He is said to be in stable condition.
According to police, the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Marc Leon, ran away from the scene on foot prior to police showing up. Leon was found and arrested within 10 minutes of the shooting, police said.
According to Irving police, an argument between Leon and the victim who died led to the shooting. Both were employees at the Wingstop location and when Leon was told to leave by the victim, Leon shot him multiple times, hitting another employee with stray bullets, police said.
Another employee inside the restaurant witnessed the shooting and confirmed Leon was the only suspect, a probable cause affidavit added.
A GoFundMe has been started to help pay for Govea's funeral expenses. Anyone interested in donating can do so here.
