IRVING, Texas — Fifteen families were displaced after an Irving apartment complex caught fire, causing the roof to collapse, according to fire officials.
The Irving Fire Department responded to reports of a fire around 11:48 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the Calloway at Las Colinas apartments, located at 7342 Parkridge Blvd.
When firefighters arrived they saw flames through the apartment's roof and began to evacuate surrounding buildings, according to Irving fire officials on the scene. As firefighters entered the building, the roof collapsed and crews pulled out, officials said.
No injuries were reported, officials said.
At least 15 families were displaced as a result of the fire, officials said. The Red Cross will assist those families that are displaced.
According to witnesses on the scene, this is the second fire in a month at this apartment complex. When the witness saw the flames, he started knocking on doors to help clear the buildings.
"This apartment has a lot of kids, a lot of pets so we made sure the whole building was clear," a witness told WFAA.
