DALLAS — Brandon Pettigrew, a former Detroit Lions tight end from Tyler, was arrested early Sunday morning in Dallas after punching and breaking the glass door of a 7-Eleven, police say.

Police were called just after 2 a.m. to a 7-Eleven in the 2600 block of Elm Street after Pettigrew was reportedly in the back storage room of the store and was refusing to leave, an arrest affidavit states.

Officers found Pettigrew reportedly at the front counter of the store holding a bottle of water, the affidavit detailed. The store's assistant manager told Pettigrew he needed to pay for the water, but Pettigrew reportedly put down the bottle and tried to leave the store.

Officers stopped Pettigrew and asked what he was doing in the storage room, the report states, then Pettigrew reportedly became agitated and started arguing with police. A worker went to check the storage room and while officers tried to de-escalate the situation, Pettigrew allegedly punched the top glass of the front door, breaking it. When police tried to take him into custody, Pettigrew reportedly started shouting and moving away from them.

Police then reportedly stunned Pettigrew with electronic control devices. He then complied and was placed in custody. He was taken to the Lew Sterrett Justice Center without incident.

This isn't the first legal trouble Pettigrew has faced. AP has previously reported that he was arrested in July 2018 in Pittsburgh for reportedly punching a police officer after refusing to pay a limo driver.

Pettigrew played for the Lions from 2009 through 2016.
