DALLAS — Nearly 70 firefighters are battling flames seen coming from an abandoned school building early Sunday morning in southern Dallas.
Dallas Fire-Rescue crews responded to the site of the former Maya Angelou High School, at 3313 South Beckley Ave., around 4:24 a.m. after a passerby reported seeing flames coming from the roof.
When they arrived they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the windows, Dallas Fire-Rescue said. The fire grew quickly to the point where Command pulled all personnel out to fight the fire defensively, DFR said.
The blaze reached a 3-alarm response, as nearly 70 firefighters are battling to contain the fire with aerial ladder pipes, ground and hand lines, and DPD’s Air 1 and DFR’s Drone Team, officials said.
No one was found inside the building, officials said, and no injuries were reported. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
