DALLAS — A 29-year-old man is dead and a woman is injured after a chase and crash late Thursday night in Dallas.

At about 11:15 p.m., a Dallas County deputy tried to pull over a white Chevrolet Camaro that was racing with a Honda Prelude on eastbound 183 near Regal Row. Both cars were traveling side by side while speeding.

Once the cars split from each other, the deputy began chasing the Camaro, reaching speeds of 120 mph. The driver eventually exited onto Commonwealth and ran a red light before getting onto northbound I-35.

As the Camaro exited Northwest Highway, the driver lost control and hit a power pole, the Dallas County Sheriff's Office reports.

Deputies say the impact caused the car to split in half.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Serafin Licea, was dead on the scene.

Estrella Ortiz Alfero, a passenger injured in the crash, was taken to a local hospital. Her condition was not available Friday afternoon.
