DALLAS — A Dallas Fire-Rescue officer has died off duty, the city confirmed Monday.
Dallas Fire-Rescue said Jose Chavez worked as a firefighter and paramedic in Dallas for seven years. Dallas Fire-Rescue said Chavez died recently, but additional details about his death weren’t immediately available.
“Dallas Fire-Rescue is saddened to report the recent off-duty passing of our Brother, Fire-Rescue Officer, Jose Chavez,” Dallas Fire-Rescue said in a post on social media. “Officer Chavez selflessly served the City of Dallas – City Hall for seven years, as a firefighter and paramedic, and will be missed by many. Please keep his family, and members of this department, in your thoughts and prayers as they search for closure.”
Dallas Hispanic Firefighters Association President Stefani Salinas set up a GoFundMe page for Chavez’s family. According to the GoFundMe, Chavez leaves behind a wife and three children.
“As we help the family navigate through this difficult process, we are reaching out to our fire family, our Dallas community and everyone who sees this opportunity to assist,” the GoFundMe page reads.
